Ianis Hagi admits Rangers contract privilege as he raises return excitement with 'down to business' promise

Ianis Hagi insists it's a 'privilege' to be handed a renewal of his contract after he signed a new deal until 2026 at Rangers this week.

The Romanian playmaker has been out of action for almost a year since injuring his knee and undergoing surgery following a Scottish Cup tie against Stirling Albion last January. But new boss Michael Beale has made it clear he sees the 24-year-old as an important part of his plans for his vision at Ibrox and was keen to extend his contract for the son of former Real Madrid and Barcelona legend Gheorghe.

And Hagi, who is now back in training and expected to be back with the first team in February, has underlined how delighted he is with his new deal, in a post on social media. He said: "There are few players who have had the chance to play at this powerful football club and even fewer who have had the privilege of renewing their contract.

"I feel very proud to have the opportunity to be part of this group and continue at this huge football club. I can't wait to deliver as many trophies as possible to the fans. Let's get down to business."

Hagi has made 131 appearances, including as a substitute, for Rangers since initially joining on loan two and a half years ago and scored 23 goals.
