Ian Wright urges Anthony Gordon into £85m Chelsea transfer decision amid Everton demand

Ian Wright has urged Everton to stand firm and keep Anthony Gordon in the last week of the transfer window as Chelsea awaits a response to £60million offer amid Arsen Zakharyan's alternative.

The Blues are in the process of trying to sign another winger with four days remaining in this summer's transfer window. With both or at least one of Hakim Ziyech or Callum Hudson-Odoi expected to seal moves elsewhere, a wide player is high on the agenda of the new owner and interim sporting director Todd Boehly.

Anthony Gordon has become prime target number one, and the west Londoners have already seen multiple bids pushed back. football.london understands that the latest offer of £60m, despite being seen positively by the Toffees, could still be rejected because Frank Lampard and Co. have little time left to source a replacement.

Gordon himself has dropped multiple hints that he wants this exit, and he's even gone as far as to inform the club of his wishes to leave Goodison Park for Stamford Bridge, The Athletic understands.

However, there is still a chance this deal doesn't go through before the September 1 deadline. What makes it even harder is that Everton's number 10 illustrated his importance to the Toffees' cause with his fifth goal netted in game week four as Everton somehow escaped the Brentford Community Stadium with a point.

It was a performance that many, including Gary Lineker, expects to add more of an increase in price point onto his £60m valuation but also doesn't help with Lampard, who earlier this week, made a £100m claim on the 21-year-old.

"Anthony made a great run, it was great timing, a great pass. I thought his composure was great," Lampard said in his post-match press conference. "The next step for Anthony is in front of goal, we work and talk about it a lot, and he showed great composure. He waited, took another touch and then finished, and I'm delighted for him. I thought his all-round performance was great. There is pressure on him, it's normal, ] he's a boy, people are talking about him, and I thought he handled it brilliantly."

Post-match, Gordon made gestures that some interpreted as farewell ones. Whether that is the case remains to be seen in the limited time that the transfer window remains open. Wright, though believes Everton should pull out all the stops to prevent Boehly from getting what he wants in this situation.

The Arsenal icon said on BBC Match of the Day: "[His goal] probably should make Everton more determined to keep him.

"Because judging by what they have got at the moment, they are going to need everything they have because they look like they were holding on, very much so."

Chelsea are in the process of trying to sign young winger Zakharyan, and if Gordon weren't to be signed amid rumours of a fresh £85m total proposal being made, coupled with the possibility of wide attackers leaving, he could be promoted from going into the youth set-up to straight into the first-team fray.
