Ian Wright tells Liverpool what they cannot do against Tottenham Hotspur

Ian Wright has warned Liverpool that they cannot afford to start slowly against Tottenham Hotspur as they did against Villarreal and Everton.

Liverpool initially found life tough going in their recent 2-0 Merseyside derby win at Anfield. Both goals, from Andy Robertson and Divock Origi, came in the final 30 minutes of the game.

While in the Champions League in midweek, Jurgen Klopp’s side fell 2-0 behind at the break. Boulaye Dia scored his side’s first after only three minutes before Etienne Capoue added a second just before the interval.

But second-half goals from Fabinho, Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane completed the comeback, securing Liverpool’s place in the Champions League final as a result of the win. But speaking ahead of tonight’s game, Wright believes that it would be a lot more difficult for Liverpool to mount a comeback against Tottenham if they start in a similar manner.

“I think that, what they really want to be careful about, Liverpool, is the way that they started the game against Villarreal,” he told the Kelly and Wrighty show. “They have to make sure they don’t start like that. There was a casualness to it.

“And I think if they do that against Tottenham, that would be a lot more difficult to come back against than Villarreal. I think they’ll know that… they cannot start as poorly as I saw them start against Everton and against Villarreal.”
