Ian Wright sends Man City clear Gabriel Jesus message amid Arsenal transfer links

Ian Wright has urged Pep Guardiola to think twice about Gabriel Jesus and his Manchester City future — but also admits interest in the Brazil striker is completely understandable. Jesus scored four goals to help City hammer Watford 5-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

That means Liverpool have to overcome Everton in the Merseyside derby on Sunday afternoon to keep up pace with City in the title race. Jesus meanwhile has been touted for a City exit this summer, with Arsenal and Barcelona among the teams linked with a potential move.

It comes as City step up their chase for Borussia Dortmund goal machine Erling Haaland after the champions were priced out of a move for England captain Harry Kane last summer. However, the would-be arrival of Haaland ought not to push Guardiola and City into selling Jesus, according to Wright.

Speaking on the Match of the Day panel, the former Premier League man said: "He is very much a player that plays for the team. There is talk about him maybe leaving, but it was interesting hearing his manager saying that Gabriel is ours, he belongs to Manchester City. He is a very unselfish player and someone that can play on both wings.

"He can play down the centre and there is no surprise that people are interested in him. On any given day, a striker who is doing the kind of work he does, you are going to score goals.

"We are talking about someone who has got 29 assists, too. This is what Pep [Guardiola] loves about him... that way he can close down and win that ball back. Super running, he can play on the right, left or down the centre."
