Ian Wright reveals Gabriel Jesus 'worry' as Arsenal star continues recent goal drought

Arsenal icon Ian Wright has revealed he is worried about the goal-scoring form of striker Gabriel Jesus amid his drought over the past few matches. The Brazilian has now gone seven appearances without finding the back of the net across all competitions, putting his performances under a microscope.

Despite his lack of personal contributions, the 25-year-old has still continued to have an impact in the forward areas of the Arsenal attack. His pressing and work rate make him ideal off the ball for Mikel Arteta's style, while his unselfish nature has also seen him provide more for others than himself.

"Training is very restricted, but sometimes it's a lot of mental things you can work on and discuss," The manager said when asked about goal droughts for both of his strikers. "And experiences they've had – it's not the first time Eddie or Gabi have been five games without scoring a goal in their career, that happens to any striker that I've known of. And you have to deal with that. It's part of their job."

With the Gunners still hopeful of fighting for the Premier League title as the season draws on, the need for their strikers to be firing in close contests couldn't be more crucial. Amid the current issues for Jesus, Ian Wright has claimed it's a worry that he hasn't got the same scoring rhythm.

He told the Kelly and Wrighty show: "When you look at Jesus, and you look at the amount of work he's doing outside of the box, he has got the energy to get in there. But even on Sunday, he had two very good chances, which I think that a player of that calibre should have taken because it was all in his hands – and he didn't.

"So that's a little bit of a worry because people are constantly talking about: 'well, he's not a natural finisher'. He started the season on fire, and then we're seeing a couple of misses now.

"Now, everybody's starting to say: 'well, we told you so'. But we're talking about somebody who does contribute a lot, will score goals, and as long as the team's scoring, what are you going to do?"

Given his importance in their all-round playing style, it is unlikely that Jesus will drop out of the side as he searches for some form in front of goal. However, with a packed schedule and a battle to be fighting for the title, the Brazilian will be hopeful of finding some goals again soon.
