Ian Wright hints 'impressive' Alexander Isak can improve Newcastle United's goalscoring problems

Ian Wright has hinted that Alexander Isak could be the solution to Newcastle United's recent goal scoring woes after his 'impressive' performance against Wolves.

Newcastle had not scored for three games on the spin in all competitions prior to welcoming Wolves to St James' Park on Sunday. Isak marked his sixth league start of the season by sending a bullet header into the far corner in the 26th minute.

Isak produced a man of the match display, before Miguel Almiron emerged from the bench to score the winning goal 11 minutes from time. The victory has guided Newcastle to within four points of the Champions League places, while the Magpies also boast two games in hand over fourth-place Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal legend Wright was impressed by Isak's performance last weekend, and says they would be in a much stronger position in the race for the top four had they been more clinical in front of goal in recent weeks.

"We knew that Almiron's supernova form at the start of the season couldn't last. Isak got the injury before, he came in and looked really, really impressive," Wright revealed on his podcast Wrighty's House.

"When you look at the chances that Newcastle have missed in games before this one, they could be so much further up the league than they are. And they are going to need to win those two games in hand."
