Ian Wright has urged Arsenal to make major transfer U-turn amid £47m striker claim

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has urged his old club to offer Alexandre Lacazette a new contract given his impressive form.

The Frenchman, who was signed for a reported £47million back in the summer of 2017, is into the final five months of his current deal at the Emirates Stadium and has registered an impressive seven assists in his last ten Premier League outings but has scored just three league goals this campaign.

The Gunners allowed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to join Barcelona during the January transfer window whilst fellow-frontman Eddie Nketiah is also out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

Now, Wright has told the north London outfit that they should keep Lacazette around, potentially offering him another year or two considering his excellent link-up play that helped the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli score during Sunday's 3-2 win against Watford.

Speaking on Wrighty’s House podcast, he said: "It will be interesting to see how they do that.

"His position is vitally important to everything we do, just look at the two assists he got.

“Unless we get that person, you think to yourself, 'maybe we could give Laca another year or two'.

“I think Laca has got to stay around, man. You can see with his little back flick (for Saka’s goal against Watford), his little assist. Man is feeling the vibe.”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will be hoping that Lacazette can continue his fine form as his side look to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League.

The Gunners currently sit fourth in the league standings, one point above Manchester United, however, the Red Devils have played three more matches.
