Ian Wright delivers Mauricio Pochettino Chelsea prediction with worrying title claim for Arsenal

Ian Wright has made a bold prediction for next season's Premier League campaign which will be a concern to Arsenal and Mikel Arteta. The Gunners, to the surprise of most, have pushed Manchester City all the way in the title race this season, but their recent 3-0 loss to Brighton looks to have ended any hope of Arsenal lifting silverware at the end of May.

A four-game winless run over April and May has proved costly for Arsenal with City then able to catch up to their points tally before leapfrogging them in the table following a 4-1 win at Etihad Stadium. Back-to-back victories brought Arsenal back into the conversation but the Sunday defeat against Brighton means City need just one win from their last three Premier League games to retain the title.

While it remains possible the Gunners win the league this season, with Champions League football secure, attention must turn to the upcoming transfer window and the 2023/24 campaign. Challenging seasons for Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool have resulted in it being a straight shoot-out between City and Arsenal but Wright does not expect that to happen again next season.

"Looking ahead, the slight worry I have for Arsenal is that Mauricio Pochettino is heading to Chelsea, so they’re coming," Wright said on his podcast, via Metro. "They have an excellent squad. I don’t know what’s going to happen with Manchester United but you know they aren’t going to sleep for too long.

"Liverpool are going to be making the signings they need to get them back to where they want to be. You look at those sides plus Man City and Arsenal – and even Newcastle – they’re all coming now and that’s exciting.

"If Man City can win five titles in six years and they keep winning, it’s tough because teams know they need at least 90 points to compete.

"Liverpool showed us it can be done but look at what it did to them. What we all need to be worried about is a situation where Man City just win it at a canter because while Liverpool and now Arsenal have given it a good go, they’re still doing it, City.

"People mock the French and German leagues but the Premier League, if we’re not careful, is on that path. The only thing stopping that is teams like Liverpool and Arsenal standing up, that’s why we need Chelsea, Liverpool and Man United back and Newcastle coming up too."
