Ian Wright angered Liverpool FC star with celebration of Jadon Sancho’s Manchester United goal

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has admitted Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was not too happy with him after Jadon Sancho had scored Manchester United's opening goal on Monday night.

Erik ten Hag's side secured a 2-1 victory over Liverpool thanks to goals from Sancho and Marcus Rashford, with Mohamed Salah scoring a consolation goal for the visitors late on in the clash.

Sancho put United in the lead early in the first half, and Wright - who was sat with the injured Jones in the stands - didn't impress the Liverpool player by applauding the strike.

Rashford doubled the home side's lead in the second period with a calm finish, and United were able to hold on to secure an important win over their rivals.

Wright told his Wrighty's House podcast : "When Jadon Sancho scored, you get up and clap. And I don’t want them to think, ‘oh why are not clapping? Who are you supporting? Liverpool?’.

“Curtis Jones was watching it with us. So when I got up and I was clapping Jadon, I said I’m so pleased for Jadon, he went like that to me, like ‘sit down’ with his face.”

Jones is yet to make an appearance for Liverpool this season after picking up a calf injury in pre-season.

United's win over Jurgen Klopp's side was their first of the new season after losing to Brighton and Brentford in their opening two matches of the campaign.
