Ian Wright and Michael Owen believe West Ham gifted Manchester United the win

Ian Wright and Michael Owen believe that West Ham brought defeat upon themselves against Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.

A cagey game was settled thanks to a tap in at the back post from Marcus Rashford deep into stoppage time.

The Hammers were unhappy that the goal was allowed to stand as they felt Edinson Cavani, who crossed for Rashford, was in an offside position when the ball was played to him.

VAR did check the on-field decision but allowed the goal to stand.

Speaking to Premier League Productions after the game, Owen said: "That was a priceless goal, it was actually made from the bench.

"From Martial, to Cavani to Rashford, the three players who Rangnick brought on all combined and it just shows you how important the bench is.

"It was a good team goal. Martial waited just to the right time.

"But (Jarrod) Bowen there in the last few seconds… David Moyes will be a bit unhappy he’s losing the ball. Then United pounce and he’s (Cavani) just onside."

Wright added: "I think West Ham will feel very disappointed with that.

"Obviously, Jarrod Bowen, you’ve got to do more to keep that ball and finish that game off. Then all of a sudden they are all out of place."

Manchester United's victory saw them rise to fourth place in the Premier League table, leapfrogging West Ham in the process.
