Ian Rush sends warning to ‘true’ Liverpool supporters as he backs Jurgen Klopp to turn poor form around

Liverpool legend Ian Rush has warned fans that they currently face a true test of their support, as Jurgen Klopp’s side continue to struggle on the pitch.

A heavy 3-0 defeat against Wolves made it four defeats in seven matches across all competitions for Liverpool, with just a single win in that terrible run.

It has left the Reds out of the FA Cup and 10th in the Premier League table, 11 points off Newcastle in fourth. Liverpool are as close to the relegation zone in terms of points as they are the Champions League spots.

Klopp has admitted recent performances have been some of the worst in his managerial career, and there are no signs of form improving ahead of the upcoming Champions League last-16 tie against Real Madrid.

However, Rush has backed Klopp to turn things around at Anfield and urged Liverpool supporters to do likewise, insisting they are needed more now than they were a year ago when the team was competing on all fronts.

“With Jurgen - I believe in him, everyone believes in him,” Rush told Sky Sports.

“With everyone fit, we’ve got a great squad. Unfortunately we’ve had a few injuries, but you’ve got to work through that.

“It’s great when you go through the good times, everyone loves that. We nearly did the quadruple.

“The true supporters get behind the team when they’re not doing well. Try and give the players the confidence to get on and start winning games.”
