Ian Hyland on TV: Has BGT's Golden Buzzer lost a little of its lustre?

Whisper it softly, but I’m getting a definite feeling that the Britain’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer has lost a little lustre.

The three buzzers we’ve seen so far have left me dreading the live shows. If this is the cream it might be a very long week.

What’s worse is that they have been chosen by BGT’s more discerning players - Ant & Dec, Simon Cowell and David Walliams.

I could see why Walliams went wild for Flakefleet Primary School in the first show.

It was a joyous moment - although he probably had one eye on keeping the target market for his books sweet as well.

My fear is they will simply do exactly the same routine in the live shows.

As for Simon Cowell choosing the mildly amusing comedian Kojo Anim, I’m not sure whether he did it because Kojo is a mate of Alesha Dixon’s or because he was still high on the euphoria of finally getting a joke after 12 years.

However, the most worrying development was Ant & Dec picking Mumbai belly dancer Akshat Singh who at just 13 years old is already a veteran of India’s Got Talent, the Indian version of Strictly, The Ellen Degeneres Show in America and Little Big Shots in Australia.

Tolerate Cowell’s habit of inviting acts on that have already succeeded on talent shows all over the world if you must, boys.

Please don’t start endorsing or encouraging it though.

That will just make him even more lazy and complacent - and this show will end up going the same way as The X Factor.
