Ian Evatt discusses Declan John's recent Bolton Wanderers squad absence & Liverpool loanee update

Ian Evatt says Declan John and others not making the Bolton Wanderers matchday squad must continue to keep their heads down and maintain their hard work and professionalism as more chances to impress will be granted if they do just that.

Defender John has been absent from the last three League One matchday squads for Wanderers. His last appearance for the Whites in the division came on the road to Forest Green Rovers earlier this month.

He has subsequently not made the matchday 18 for the draw against Barnsley and the victories over Accrington Stanley and Burton Albion. His last game for Bolton came in the Papa Johns Trophy win over Leeds United's under-21s.

Evatt believes John has merely been one of those ones to miss out as he has a fully fit squad now at his disposal. The same is the case for Liverpool loanee Owen Beck.

The Anfield youth product made his second Wanderers appearance in the win over Leeds' youngsters and has impressed Evatt with his contributions in training of late. He wants all those who are not getting a chance in the squad at the moment to remain professional and be supportive of their team-mates and, as long as they do that, they will get opportunities to show what they can do.

He told the Manchester Evening News: “It’s not just Declan, Owen Beck as well. He has trained really well the last couple of weeks.

“When he first came in the building from his experience in Portugal, he wasn’t quite where we wanted him to be. But the last two weeks, he’s trained out of skin and he’s performed well in the half and hour he got against Leeds and he’s progressing all of the time as well.

“It’s not just him. There’s players getting left out all of the time and it just shows you that our squad is a real strong one.

“All I can say to the ones that aren’t involved is keep your head down, stay professional, be a good team-mate, work hard and eventually if you keep doing the right things, you’ll get another chance.”
