Ian Durrant back in football as Rangers legend forms part of old alliance in lower leagues

Ian Durrant is back in football with West of Scotland Football League side Kilwinning Rangers.

He joins the Ayrshire side as assistant manager to Chris Aitken, who has taken charge as boss . The pair worked together at Lowland League side East Kilbride but left last year, with former Kilbirnie Ladeside and Greenock Juniors coach Owen Archdeacon completes Kilwinning's new backroom staff.

Aitken said: "I don't think I need to say too much about Ian Durrant. He's been with me now for the last three years. I've always said to him he's my mentor. He's the one that's going to keep me right because if you can't feed off Ian Durrant's experience you shouldn't be in the game. Owen Archdeacon is a bit different. His coaching is just starting out. I've known Owen all my life. We had a really good chat and he says he was delighted to get the opportunity to come in and work, not just with me, but the likes of Ian Durrant."

Durrant spent 13 years at Rangers, only pausing for a loan at Everton in 1994 before leaving for Kilmarnock in 1998. 10 years prior to his exit, he tore the ligaments in his right knee and did not play competitive football for almost three years after a challenge in a clash with Aberdeen.

He spent time spent as a coach at Rangers before he left with old mate Ally McCoist in 2016. He's also been at Dumbarton and Stranraer.
