Ian Burchnall has praised referee Daniel Middleton after revealing how he apologised for his penalty howler in Notts County's thrilling 3-3 draw with Solihull Moors.
The official pointed to the spot in the first half when he adjudged goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros had brought down Andrew Dallas despite clearly winning the ball.
But amid fierce protests, Middleton went over to chat to his assistant before changing his mind and giving Solihull a throw-in.
He had already awarded a penalty by that point after Adam Chicksen was penalised for handball in the area allowing Dallas to give the Moors the lead inside the first 10 minutes.
But head coach Burchnall said he had no complaints with the referee and said the decision to change his mind was good officiating.
"It's clearly a save, but he said he was watching the goalkeeper and didn't look at the ball," he said.
"His assistant helped him straight away and I saw the ref coming out at half-time and he said 'I am so sorry'.
"But fair play because it takes bravery to change the decision. It's easy to stick with it and take the flak after.
"But he recognised he had made a mistake and I think in the end it becomes good refereeing because he corrects a bad error.
"I can't complain and I think for the first one Chicks said it his arm and the second one he changed his mind. No complaints from me.
"At the time when he gave it, I thought 'oh no, here we go'."
