Ian Burchnall issues update on Sheffield United midfielder after taking 'big hit' against Halifax Town

Ian Burchnall says Sheffield United loanee Zak Brunt was taken off against Halifax Town as a precaution but has shown no signs that he has suffered concussion.

The Blades midfielder was injured a 50/50 tackle after coming on as a substitute in the second half of the 1-1 draw against the Shaymen and was taken off in the 86th minute after treatment by the club physio and medical staff.

Brunt eventually got to his feet before being assisted around the pitch to the dugout, but Notts did not take any risks and he was replaced by Frank Vincent for the remainder of the National League clash.

But speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash against Woking this weekend, Burchnall said Brunt appeared to be suffering no lingering effects and trained on Wednesday.

"He trained and he felt okay to do that," said Notts' head coach.

"We kept him away from any contact but we checked him after the session and he seemed alright.

"It was just a bit of a big hit at the time and I think sometimes you've got to have a bit of caution with those things.

"He came off as a matter of precaution but hasn't shown any other signs that he's got concussion, so hopefully he's okay."
