Ian Burchnall fires 'daft' Dover warning as Notts County aim for third straight win

Ian Burchnall has warned Notts County they would be "daft" to underestimate relegation favourites Dover and says they have given good sides a test this season.

The Magpies make the long trip south to face Andy Hessenthaler's side tomorrow night in what is a rearranged game after their clash last month was postponed.

Dover look certain to be heading to Conference South in what has been a tough season not helped by a 12-point deduction enforced as a result of not fulfilling four fixtures last term.

But they have given National League promotion contenders Chesterfield, Stockport and Wrexham stiff examinations this season.

And head coach Burchnall says it proves Dover are not going down without a fight.

"I think Chesterfield drew down there," he said.

"I think Wrexham won 1-0 in the 80th minute. They only lost 1-0 with 10 men away at Stockport the other week.

"Of course, their league position is not good and they have not had great results this season.

"But at the same time in many games, they have been in tight games and very difficult games for the opposition.

"I think it's one that, despite the league position, you'd be daft to underestimate.

"I mean, how good of Stockport been lately? Dover went away there and only got beat 1-0 and they had 10 men for about 60 minutes of that.

"So it's clearly not a team that is just lying down. They're not doing that. They're competing in the game. So we absolutely have to be ready for that."

Notts go into tomorrow night's game having secured a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy with a fine 2-1 win at Halifax at the weekend.

And it kicked off what is going to be a hectic schedule for Notts as they seek promotion to the Football League.

There are some big games on the horizon in the coming weeks, but Burchnall says everyone is important no matter who is standing in front of them.

"We have to be ready for every game," he said.

"And if we're not we've seen where we've had slip-ups in games that maybe we should take points and we haven't certainly away from home.

"It's not only about the big games, we've got to make sure that we're prepared for Dover away, Eastleigh at home and not get too far ahead of ourselves.

"I'm sure as each game gets ticked off, we'll talk about how important this game is and then that game will go and we'll have the same conversation for the next game.

"They're all going to be very important games. I think we hopefully go into it very well prepared, knowing that we play some of the teams at the top end of the table.

"We had those three losses in a row earlier in the season and then we had a similar kind of run where we played Stockport. Dagenham, and Grimsby all in a short space of time.

"And we did really well out of those games. So I think we enjoy that challenge."
