Ian Burchnall delivers verdict as Notts County held by promotion rivals Chesterfield

Ian Burchnall felt Notts County were the "better team" in the second half of their showdown against Chesterfield as the Magpies had to settle for a point.

Notts had fallen behind in the first half when Alex Whittle struck past Sam Slocombe after good work by Akawsi Asante during the build-up.

But the Magpies hit back just before half-time when Ruben Rodrigues was fouled by Whittle which saw Kyle Wootton score from the penalty spot.

Chesterfield hit the post after the breakthrough Calvin Miller but Wootton had the best chance of the second half when he hit the bar just two yards out.

Reflecting on the performance, Burchnall said: "I thought we edged the game in the second half.

"We were maybe the more aggressive team. We had a lot of good attacking moments in there. They hit the post through Calvin Miller and had a penalty shout in there too.

"You can say a point is okay. They are a very good team and I was happy with a large part of the performance.

"It was a fairly even start and I thought their goal rattled us a little bit. We struggled after that to find the flow of the game. But we finished the half strong.

"In the second half, we were the better team. We had good control of the game but they caught us a few times on the counter.

"But I thought we played some really nice stuff, created some good opportunities. But we just missed that finishing part."
