Ian Burchnall answers key Notts County transfer question

Ian Burchnall says Notts County do not need another striker and insists they have already proven they have enough firepower to maintain their push for promotion.

The Magpies were beaten 1-0 by promotion rivals Bromley at the weekend which followed on from a goalless draw against Wealdstone and have subsequently dropped out of the play-off positions.

Fans took to social media after the defeat to Bromley to urge the club to add another centre-forward to the squad because they fear the club lacks strength in depth.

While Kyle Wootton has scored 15 goals and Ruben Rodrigues, who is his strike-partner, has found the back of the net eight times, back-up forwards Eli Sam and Kairo Mitchell have one league goal between them.

But head coach Burchnall feels there is more than enough quality in the squad to ensure they are back among the goals.

"We have a striker and we have good strikers," he said.

"Up until two games ago, we were the second-highest scorers in the league and still two games behind everybody else.

"Before this (draw against Wealdstone) we scored four against Southend, three against Wrexham, two against Dagenham and four against King's Lynn.

"I don't know. Wealdstone was the first 0-0 we had since I've been here in nearly 50 games.

"It's been very few games when we haven't scored a goal so I think for our strikers Ruben Rodrigues and Kyle Wootton and other attacking players, we have more than enough to score and create chances.

"So I don't see that being an issue."

Burchnall says the nature of Saturday's narrow defeat to promotion rivals Bromley is no reason to sound an alarm considering how tight the race for promotion is.

And he says the two games that Notts have in hand, should they win them, would make the table look a lot more appealing in terms of the club's quest to return to the Football League.

"We have enough players to win the game," he said.

"It's not about players. We've won a lot of games with these players.

"It's the first time we have lost since November so I don't think we need to hit any panic buttons.

"We are a little bit below where we would like to be.

"But I reiterate we have games in hand in which we need to maximise the points from.

"When we've done that then the league looks healthier for us. We just have to trust in what we are doing.

"We've played some really good games and we have just got to keep going."
