Cindy Beale will be joined by her long suffering ex Ian as she makes an explosive return to EastEnders, in a twist that has fans beside themselves with excitement and chomping at the it for what's in store.
While Cindy's 'back from the dead' comeback to EastEnders was ruined by a a national newspaper, much to the anger of fans, millions still tuned into BBC One on Wednesday night to see if the reports were indeed true. The storyline involving newcomer George Knight searching for Rose, the 'missing' mother of his two daughters, proved to be the catalyst for Cindy's return.
In the final scenes of the episode, George was see dialling Rose's number on his mobile, as Seal's Kiss From A Rose blasted from the Queen Vic jukebox. AS he failed to get an answer, the scene then cut to a woman glancing at her phone as she sat round a swimming pool and that woman turned out to be none other than Cindy, who was last seen on screen in 1997, before being killed off in an off screen death a year later.

As credits rolled, the BBC then added to fans' excitement by posting a new photo of Cindy, together with Ian, on Twitter. Ian has been absent as regular character for a number of years now, making a very brief appearance for Dot's funeral last year. Talking about being back on the show he started work on back in 1986, actor Adam Woodyatt said: "It’s weird saying Ian’s back as it never really felt like he was gone, Ian still existed just not in Walford. Now that he is back, he needs to avoid Sharon cooking carbonara and his mum getting him cufflinks for Christmas!”
Talking about the storyline that's bringing both Cindy and Ian back to Albert Square, Chris Clenshaw, EastEnders' executive producer, added: “ Cindy’s been sorely missed from our screens, and we’re delighted that she’ll be returning to Walford, alongside Ian, permanently later this year.
" Now everyone knows that she is in fact Rose Knight, secrets are set to be revealed as viewers will learn about the circumstances surrounding their return, including the million dollar question - how is Cindy alive when she was declared dead in 1998 – and later this summer Ian and Cindy’s comeback will be nothing less than explosive for The Square.”
