'I would prefer him to Poch' - Manchester United fans can't decide if they want Ralf Rangnick to stay

Manchester United fans are split on whether they would be happy with Ralf Rangnick as the club’s permanent manager.

The German has not featured much in the conversation as United look to make an appointment before the end of the season. Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag remain the frontrunners for the job, while recent reports have suggested Carlo Ancelotti could also be considered.

The interim manager insisted he hasn't even contemplated becoming the permanent boss when he spoke at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s clash with Manchester City. However, he also refused to distance himself from the suggestion.

"I have no idea," Rangnick told reporters. "I haven't made any thoughts about that. My focus is on Sunday and then the next games against Tottenham, Atletico. There is no time and no space to think about anything else than the upcoming games."

Rangnick was also reminded of comments he made at his initial unveiling in which he stated he would be open to the permanent role if it were offered to him.

He added: "No, no, no I know what I said. I said with a twinkle in my eye maybe at one stage at the end I might recommend myself in the role as an advisor.

"It’s not the end of the season. We have 11 games, right now we have enough to do to prepare for Sunday and that’s where my focus is."

While there has been an upturn in results since Rangnick’s arrival, performances have still been lacking, with United continuing to make hard work of the race for the top four. There have also been numerous suggestions of unrest within the changing room.

United fans are undecided on whether the German has done enough to warrant taking on the job full-time. The majority still favour one of Pochettino or Ten Hag.

Should Rangnick be interested in taking on the manager’s job full-time, he’ll face a major test of his credentials in Sunday’s derby. All eyes will be on the Etihad, with plenty riding on the result.

United will be looking to remain in fourth spot after the weekend, with Rangnick's men holding just a two-point advantage in the hunt for the final Champions League place. City, meanwhile, are looking to keep title rivals Liverpool away from them, with Jurgen Klopp’s men just six points behind with a game in hand.
