“I will not relax, I will not allow anyone to relax”, said Health Minister Harish Rao at a congregation of doctors, nurses, ANMs and ASHAs at Gandhi Hospital on Thursday.
He said this after reading out the State’s rank in various health parameters. Telangana occupies the number two position in Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) screening among 28 States, and its Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) has dropped from 92 to 56.
“We are doing a wonderful job in many aspects. But of course, we won’t relax. I will not relax, and I will not allow any of you to relax. I keep saying this that we have to be in the number one position, and so we have to work more. Health parameters have to improve further. And in that, we have the Chief Minister’s support. We also have to better the trust levels of people on government hospitals,” he said while presenting awards to HCWs.
For the first time, HCWs of various categories from the Health Department were given away awards for best performance. ASHAs, ANMs, nurses, doctors, DMHOs, and superintendents, were acknowledged for putting in their best efforts.
Mr. Rao recalled the hard work put in by all Health officials during the fight against COVID, and how they went out of their way to provide medical services to people.
Speaking about news reports on patients being treated on hospital corridors, he said that such situations arise as patients in excess of the permitted bed capacity are not denied admission.
Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Vakati Karuna, Director of Public Health Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao, Director of Medical Education Dr. K. Ramesh Reddy and others were present.
