I went to Wetherspoons at 8am and saw everything from acts of kindness to stags and hens, birthdays and more

Wetherspoons is famous for its cheap breakfasts and early morning punters seeking a beer or two - but what's it like on a Saturday morning in a busy city centre?

I spent the morning at the popular Wetherspoons at Leeds train station to see just what it was like on a busy Saturday morning in a bustling city centre.

By 10am, I had seen people dressed to impress ready for York races, Leeds Rhinos fans pre-drinking on their way to Old Trafford, a stag do and a number of groups already hitting the beer for the long day of drinking ahead of them - that's what a Saturday in 'spoons is all about, right?

I arrived just after opening time, which is 8am if you didn't already know, and was shocked to find I wasn't the first one here - a couple of tables had beat me to ordering that famous 'spoons breakfast and refillable coffee.

At first I was shocked by the lack of people drinking beer - but a stag do, wearing matching t-shirts with the stag's face printed on, quickly walked in and started with the constant flow of alcohol.

Before 10am came the pub was packed out (Megan Banner)

By 9am a number of tables had filled up with groups of people starting on the alcohol for the busy Saturday ahead of them. Leeds Rhinos were playing away at Old Trafford that day, so a sea of brightly blue coloured shirts quickly took over.

I also got the pleasure of seeing a man in an extravagant Hawaiian shirt, a man in a crazy looking wig, people dressed up for the races, a hen do, and stacks of workmen who had called in for their morning break. In fact I don't know why Wetherspoons has a door, because it's constantly open with a flow of people coming and going.

By 9.30am I felt out of place drinking coffee as the remainder of the pub had turned onto the hard stuff.... lager. And the pub all of a sudden became quite rowdy - and I'm certainly not complaining at that fact - what's better than a rowdy pub atmosphere? I was only jealous because I couldn't partake in a drink or two myself. It was nice to see so many people with different plans for the day all together enjoying themselves.

By 10am it was booming, I felt like it was 10pm in a busy late bar and was ready to kick off the party and dance on the tables. The staff certainly seemed busy, but didn't seem to be getting overwhelmed by the hectic atmosphere.

But my favourite thing I witnessed on my morning trip to 'spoons? A true act of kindness between two men helping an elderly gentleman. And maybe that's what every loves about Wetherspoons early on a morning, it's sense of community spirit, where everyone is here for a good time.

And if you're a sucker for a man in work trousers like me, then Wetherspoon's is the place to visit on a Saturday morning - it's flooded with workmen having an early morning breakfast before the Saturday overtime.
