I went to the Lidl warehouse sale as shoppers arrived early for 80% off items from the middle aisle

It's the classic tale of heading to Lidl for a litre of milk and coming out with a remote control forklift.

The middle aisle is a treasure trove of assorted items that you never knew you needed, making a weekly grocery shop that bit more exciting.

So with the Lidl warehouse sale taking place across six locations in Ireland from July 7 until July 10 and promising up to 80% off certain products, I wanted to see for myself what was on offer.

At 8am on Thursday morning I headed into Lidl in Shankill, in Dublin, and made my way to the warehouse sale - which is located in a store room at the back of the store, not in the usual centre aisles of the shop.

There were already a handful of customers there as soon as the doors opened who had come down in the hope of nabbing certain items in the sale.

I saw many great bargains including a Sharp LG 4K UHD Smart TV 50, reduced from €549.99 to €399.99 and the Kenwood Kitchen Mixer marked down from €169.00, to now only €99.99.

But some shoppers were left disappointed as a few of the more coveted items were not yet in stock including the Avita Laptop, the Barbie Super Camper, the NutriBullet blender and the DKNY ladies watches.

It turns out that while the sale runs from Thursday July 7 to Sunday July 10, not all the items are due to be on sale from the first day with some only arriving in over the weekend.

Richard, who lives nearby, came down early to Lidl Shankill to buy the Barbie Super Camper van for his six-year-old daughter's birthday in September but left empty handed.

He said luckily it was going to be a surprise present for his daughter, so she didn't know she was getting the Barbie Camper van but they will now have to get her something else.

"I saw it on the website and thought 'I'll grab that'," he said. "The date [of the sale] was today so I'm a bit disappointed.

"There was someone else looking for a laptop as well, they didn't have that either.

"Luckily I'm not too far away, I'm only a stones throw away so it could have been worse."

The Barbie Super Camper for €59.99 will land in the Lidl warehouse sale from Friday, July 8.

The Avita Laptop Pura A9, marked down to €299.99, and the Nutribullet Blender on sale for €69.99 are also due to go on sale from Friday, July 8.

The DKNY Eastside Ladies Watch, reduced from €169 down to €59.99, and DKNY Astoria Ladies Watch reduced from €99 to just €24.99 will be on sale on Sunday, July 10.

However, one mother was delighted to unexpectedly pick up a kids storage unit for her children's toys at a knockdown price as she had missed it when it was previously on sale in Lidl's middle aisle.

Catherine picked up the Kids Storage Shelves, which were originally priced at €24.99, for just €14.99 - getting a 40% discount.

"I came down to get the kids storage unit," she said. "We have two kids at home so lots of toys and it will keep their area nice and clean.

"When I came in to get it before I missed it so I was delighted to see that the warehouse sale was here so then it's even more of a bargain now because I got it cheaper than I thought I would have."

Other assorted items on sale in Shankill were a Silvercrest Stand Mixer for €79.99, a Singer sewing machine for €129.99, a Sharp microwave with a grill for €59.99, an inverted welder for €64.99, a blood pressure monitor for €17.99, and a kids play kitchen for €24.99.

The Lidl warehouse sale is taking place now in six Lidl stores in Sligo, Shackleton, Wicklow, Shankill, Youghal, and Tralee.
