Maxey's is one of the best farm shops in Nottinghamshire, according to reviews on Tripadvisor reviews. The farm shop is in Kirklington, Newark, stocking locally produced foods which compliment its range to provide what it calls a "complete food haven".
Some reviews say “Maxey's is one of my farm shops" and "it has a fabulous wide range of foods and some gifts too". Customers say that “the deli counter has cheeses, baked goods both sweet and savoury, serves great coffee to go and makes sandwiches for takeaway”.
So I headed to Newark to see for myself. When entering Maxey’s it was so lovely, it had a really welcoming and warm atmosphere. There was fresh fruit and veg, a deli counter, a butcher's counter and it had gifts, sweets and a whole range of foods.

I went over to the deli counter and was greeted by two ladies who were nothing but kind and friendly. The deli counter was something I’d never seen before: it was full of different pastries, cakes and cheeses and I felt spoilt for choice. I asked them what food they have and they did a roll with a filling of your choice to take away.
They had a range of fillings from ham to tuna. But I decided to get ham with a salad filling. The ham roll was lovely. The roll was soft and fresh and the ham was tasty. You can’t really go wrong with a ham cob.
When it came to the homemade cakes I wanted them all. It was every sweet lover's dream. From chocolate Kinder Bueno Cheesecake, flapjacks, Peanut Butter Millionaire Shortbread to coffee and walnut cake, the farm shop had everything you could ever want.
I asked the two ladies what was the best cake. They said the Biscoff Millionaire is the most popular cake and is a favourite of theirs also. It's a Biscoff version of the Chocolate Millionaire Shortbread, with a Biscoff base and a sticky Biscoff filling. The homemade lemon meringue pie was described as pretty epic also.
Since it was the favourite, I went for the Biscoff Millionaire and it did not disappoint. I love Biscoff anyway so I knew I was going to like it. But it was more than I expected. It was so good, the biscuit crumb at the bottom and the Biscoff caramel in the middle was to die for.
When it comes to pasties I'm not really a fan. I didn’t know what to pick or what I would like. Again, I felt spoilt for choice so the ladies at the counter helped me again on what to pick. They said that the Spinach Feta Roll was a personal favourite of theirs. They were all homemade and looked delicious and filling.
There was everything from homemade scotch eggs to caramelised onion sausage rolls. I decided to get a homemade plain sausage roll. I asked if it was best warm or cold and was told that it’s really nice warm.
When I had the sausage roll it was really nice. I heated it up and it tasted good. However, I could only eat half since it was big and quite filling. But I do definitely recommend homemade sausage rolls.
"Overall my experience at Maxey's was lovely. The staff was nothing but kind and helpful, I felt so welcomed. The store felt cosy and had everything you could imagine. Location: Brickfield Farm, Hockerton Road, Kirklington, Newark NG22 8PB
