Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has admitted he was scared after he suffered a leg injury in the draw with Chelsea last month.
Varane was visibly upset when he left the field in the capital back in October. The Frenchman was concerned that his World Cup dream may have been over following the incident, with a spell on the sidelines guaranteed.
The 29-year-old went on to miss the rest of United's matches before the prestigious tournament in Qatar but that did not stop France head coach Didier Deschamps from selecting him for the team. Fortunately for Varane, France went on to confirm that the centre-back would be available to face Australia in their World Cup opener on Tuesday.

Looking back at the aftermath following the injury, Varane told Europe 1 that he was concerned immediately following the injury he sustained. "I was scared, but I worked a lot to be there and I continue to work," he explained.
"I will give everything to be 100% as soon as possible. I’m someone who works and who goes for it.
"The high-level footballer knows how to fall, get up and go back to fighting. Emotions are part of our job and the more my career advances, the more I live my job intensely and am very happy about it."
Varane may well have a competition on his hands to regain his place in the starting XI at Old Trafford upon his return from Qatar. Before the World Cup, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof was Erik ten Hag's preferred centre-back pairing.
However, following his impressive performance against Iran, Harry Maguire may have given Ten Hag a selection headache for their first competitive game back against Burnley in the Carabao Cup.
