Manchester United youngster Brandon Williams has opened up on his struggles with injury, as he revealed how pleased he was to be back in training ahead of the second-half of the season.
Williams, who was on loan at Norwich last season, returned to Old Trafford with the hopes of challenging Diogo Dalot at right-back. However, the 22-year-old missed the entirety of United's pre-season in Thailand and Australia due to injury.
His issues with fitness have seen the full-back sidelined from any action for United this season. Despite being close to a return before the World Cup break, Williams was still absent from the matchday squad for the Reds' last game ahead of the international break, a 2-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Williams now appears to have shaken off his recent injury woes, with Erik ten Hag including him in the squad to travel to Spain. The former Norwich loanee is part of a group of 29 players taking part in a winter training camp in Andalusia, for the club's upcoming friendlies against Cadiz and Real Betis.
The United defender has recently spoken to club media, as he revealed just how pleased he was to be back in training.
“Yeah, it’s been good. It’s been good to get back out on the pitch,” he said. “I miss what I do.
“Seeing the boys train, fly out to countries… Pre-season and stuff by myself it was hard and difficult, but - thanks to the physios and my team-mates and the people behind the scenes who have helped me a lot, helped with my mentality, not just with my body as well - I feel good, I feel great and it’s good to be back now.”
Williams also reflected on his time in the Championship, as he made it clear that he firmly sees Manchester as his home.
“Norwich was a fantastic year for me personally, on and off the pitch. I learned a lot off the pitch because it’s so far away from home,” he said. "Everything’s in Manchester for me, but when I settled in I was fine, I was flying.
“I got an injury towards the end and then I got an injury which has kept me out now, so the start and the end part weren’t that good but the middle definitely helped me as a player.
“It helped me off the pitch, on the pitch and I went there and I got what I wanted, which was gametime.”
The full-back will be hopeful to feature against Cadiz and Betis, as he also shared his thoughts on the upcoming friendlies.
“I watch some games in La Liga and they’re big teams and when they do play teams like this it’s a high-quality league,” he added when asked his thoughts on the opposition.
“We had Real Sociedad come here [to Old Trafford] and beat us as well, so you can see the level in La Liga. Don’t underestimate them.”
