‘I want to play & make a difference’: Defender issues clear Celtic transfer exit hint

Celtic outcast Gustaf Lagerbielke has strongly hinted that he could seek a summer move away as he searches for more game time.

The 24-year-old was signed for £3million from Elfsborg less than a year ago but has struggled to gain regular first team action.

He made just 10 appearances in all competitions during his debut campaign with Liam Scales and Cameron Carter-Vickers proving to be Brendan Rodgers' preferred defensive pairing.

Lagerbielke still had Stephen Welsh and Maik Nawrocki to compete with for a back-up slot and would often struggle to even be included in the Hoops' match day squad.

By January, it looked as though he was set to join Lecce on-loan before the move to Serie A was pulled at the last minute.

That resulted in more frustration for the Swede and he admits there's still interest from Italy six months on and he's ready to pursue any options that will allow him to play football.

"Yes, there are interested teams in Italy and also other leagues," the centre-back confirmed to Fotbollskanalen.

"Just like all other players, I want to play and make a difference. I am ready to do so if the opportunity arises. It is difficult to say anything before something is ready. I have a contract with Celtic, but it's no secret that I want to play."

It's thought that Lagerbielke is yet to hold formal talks with Rodgers over his immediate future. Although his wording when responding to how he has developed in Scotland does further highlight his willingness to move elsewhere if the right opportunity arises.

"Very instructive," he described his time at Celtic. "I have developed a lot and become a better player. I have brought a lot with me.

“I'm looking forward to the future and I think I'll take a lot from Celtic to the next team I join."
