'I want to give my son Valentine's Day name - but I'm worried it'll ruin his life'

While some parents spend the full nine months agonising over baby names, others know exactly what they're going to call their child before they're even conceived. One pregnant woman explained how she wants to name her second-born son Valentine - but is worried he will be bullied for it throughout his school years.

She shared how she "fell in love with the name" but has three "backup" names ready to go in case she has a change of heart in the delivery room. The woman said: "Valentine for a boy's name. I'm worried it's an easy name to pick on in high school. I'm worried it is too comical, almost like a stage name."

She has taken to Reddit to ask strangers for their opinions as she hasn't been able to make a firm decision even after turning to her friends and family for their advice.

Still in two minds, she added: "Whilst I do absolutely love it I think maybe it might be a better middle name option as I'm probably not brave enough to use it as a first name.

"Other names we like are Vinnie, Zion and Koa so a lot to choose from! He will be a younger brother to Enzo."

Offering their opinion on the name Valentine, one user said: "I'm torn. I think Val is pretty cool but Valentine seems like a cartoon character name, a beanie baby, or something."

Another user added: "Valentine and Valentino are both perfectly fine. I've only known of one Valentine and she would be in her 30s now but I think it works just as well as a male name, I see it as gender neutral."

A third user said: "I like it, I don't think I would be brave enough to use it personally (if I was planning on having kids) but it is a good name.

"It would go well with Enzo. Val or Tino (even from Valentine) could be cute nicknames. It reminds me of the character in the film Mirrormask, which is one of my favourites."

One more user added: "I do genealogy, and I have 12 Valentines in my family tree! All male.

"Quite a few have it as a first name, others as middle. Mostly they were born in the late 1700s to middle 1800s. So it’s probably a bit old-fashioned but definitely has a precedent in history!"
