"I want to cry" - Lisandro Martinez explains why he was emotional after Manchester United beat Tottenham

Lisandro Martinez said the Manchester United supporters' chants of 'Argentina' nearly brought him to tears during the win over Tottenham at Old Trafford.

United signed Martinez from Ajax during the summer transfer window and the centre-back has quickly become a favourite among supporters after silencing critics who doubted whether he could play in the Premier League.

Martinez helped United keep another clean sheet on Wednesday night in the Reds' 2-0 win against Tottenham and he was emotional when interviewed after the match, explaining that it meant so much for him to have the opportunity to play for the club.

"To be honest, it’s very emotional for me because I’m at one of the best clubs in the world," Martinez told MUTV. "This stadium, the atmosphere is amazing and when I heard the people say that, 'Argentina, Argentina', to be honest, I want to cry. I’ve had many moments in my head. My beginning was really hard but I think now of my mum, my father, my girlfriend, my sisters. And this result is also for my grandmother and grandfather, they are not with me now, but I always feel that love."
