I visited the Enchanted Christmas lights trail at Knowsley Safari and it was 'magical' - review

The 'Enchanted Trail' at Knowsley Safari has become a Christmas tradition for many, and with last year's event selling out, I thought I'd give it a try.

Featuring a whopping 30 light-up animals throughout the Foot Safari, the trial consists of stunning illuminated deer, giraffes, zebra, penguins, flamingos and many more. With a seasonal backdrop of Christmas music and mulled wines aplenty, this Christmas light show is certainly different to anything I've ever been to.

The safari park had been given a big festive makeover, and featured fun kids rides, hot chocolate and doughnut stands and even a marshmallow toasting section. Visitors also get the chance to purchase an additional ticket to meet Father Christmas in his grotto - but I didn't get to do that this time round!

Its 'Christmas carnival' area is new to the park, and was included in the ticket price. From a coconut shy to a high striker challenge, there was lots to keep you busy, that's for sure.

As soon as I stepped foot in the safari park, I felt instantly festive. I'd go as far to say I was actually surprised at how festive I felt, because I wouldn't usually associate a safari park with feeling Christmassy - but I was so wrong!

The lights were nothing short of gorgeous, with an insane amount of detail on the striking safari park animals. They almost glittered in contrast to the dark cold night sky, giving the show a really 'magical' effect.

I really liked the addition of the alcoholic hot chocolate and mulled wine stand for adults, which definitely warmed my cockles when walking around the trail. The Irish hot chocolate was particularly delicious, and tasted super creamy with every sip.

Since I was visiting with my partner and no children, I'd wondered if we might feel a little bit left out, but I was soon reassured when I saw plenty of couples strolling through the trail, enjoying the festive lights.

The trail felt like a good length too, which I was really impressed by. Sometimes you pay the money for a light show or trail and find that it ends really quickly, but it wasn't the case at all with Knowsley Safari.

To finish off the trail we had to walk under a beautiful glittering arch of golden fairy lights that made the perfect Instagram backdrop. For me, light shows like this are what Christmas is really about.

I'd highly recommend a visit to the trail for an incredibly festive experience. At £11 a ticket, I think it's fantastic value and well worth the trip.

Enchanted tickets are priced at £11 and at special discounted price of £9 for members. Under 3s and carers are free. Tickets are also available to book online for entry from 4.30pm until 7.15pm.

There are two Santa Experience packages to choose from. Tickets are £10 and £18 per child and must also be pre-booked online at www.knowsleysafariexperience.co.uk.
