I visited Nottinghamshire town's Indian restaurant and was pleasantly surprised

An Indian takeaway is always a very welcome treat - from spicy curries to the almost compulsory sundries. Community reporter, Keimae Blake tried out The Gurkha Express on Beeston High Road.

I'll start with a confession - I don’t usually opt for an Indian takeaway as much as I like it, it’s never my first choice so I was more than happy to head off to the Gurkha Express in Beeston.

With a 4.5 star rating, I hoped the food lived up to those expectations. The Gurkha Express is on 146 Beeston High Road.

With a jazzy instrumental playing in the background, the restaurant was empty it was just me but it was well presented ready for other customers. I was ushered to a table and looked at the menu. There was a lot, it was hard to choose but I ended up going for: Gurkha Lamb with pilau rice and a diet coke to wash it all down.

The member of staff who ushered me to my table ended up disappearing behind a closed door into what I can only assume was the kitchen and it sounded like they were having a right laugh in there.

Inside the Gurkha Express (Nottingham Post)

When my food came, the portion sizes certainly weren't an issue. And neither was the quality, it was one of the best curries I’ve ever had.

The lamb was well cooked and slid off my fork perfectly the curry had a bit of a kick to it but it wasn’t unbearably hot and it was delicious. I must say, I wasn’t expecting it to be so nice.

General vew of the Gurkha Express (Nottingham Post)

Unlike the gigantic dessert at Rassams in Beeston that defeated me last week, I managed to eat all my curry with no trouble at Gurkha. After, I was given a hot towel in a lovely little dish which I thought was quite fancy. KFC should take notes because those lemon scented ‘wet wipes’ they have are useless.

I’d definitely go back to Gurkha again but it'd be nice to see it full. It’s a 10/10 from me.
