I visited a Nottingham carvery and left with a big smile on my face

Anyone fancy a roast? We went to a Nottingham carvery where people left with big smiles on their faces. With cheap, affordable prices, the Toby Cavery in Colwick is the ideal place to go on a Sunday or for an in-the-week roast as Community Reporter, Keimae Blake, reports….

I love a roast. There’s nothing better than sitting at the table with loved ones happily munching on a meat of your choice along with all the trimmings.

The Toby Carvery in Daleside Road, Colwick, is the perfect place for a get together or to enjoy a Sunday dinner. The big restaurant where eating outside is also an option is spacious and well-laid out.

As a Friday lunchtime treat, I went to Toby Carvery accompanied by my mum. On arrival, I showed my booking (which is easy to do via the website) to a lovely member of staff at the counter.

As I sat down, I couldn’t help but notice the smiles on people’s faces as they went back to their tables with their own lunch. Some people’s plates were piled high and some not so much.

The joy with this restaurant is you can have as much or as little as you like. We were seated straight away. After ordering a refillable drink, I wasted no time and went straight up.

From Monday-Friday, the Toby Carvery’s midweek menu is priced at £7.49. As a part of this menu, you can choose any meat of your choice to have and top your plate up with veg, mac ‘n’ cheese and plain or covered in gravy potatoes.

For £1.99, you can upgrade your meal to a king-sized meal. This means you can have an extra yorkshire pudding and two chipolata sausages.

You can also help yourself to as much veg as you want. The meat I went for was gammon.

It was nicely sliced and you get a substantial amount. I topped my plate up with mac ‘n’ cheese, garden peas, carrots, two potatoes and stuffing.

I almost forgot the massive Yorkshire pudding you get! I previously mentioned in my Popeyes review that I only like gravy on a roast, which was the finishing touch I added to my plate.

Time to tuck in. My meal was heavenly.

Every single item I ate was nice and hot. My Yorkshire pudding was crispy, crunchy and golden.

The mac ‘n’ cheese was to die for and my gammon didn’t taste like it had been drenched in salt - it was just right.

Halfway through my meal a polite waitress came and asked if everything was okay, which it most certainly was. As we remained seated many people were also in the restaurant, some enjoying time with their kids and some having just a quiet meal for two.

I think the next time I come to a Toby Cavery will be for a Sunday lunch dressed down in joggers and hoodie ready to try a different meat on the menu! I can only imagine how busy it gets on a Sunday.

Community Reporter Keimae Blake had no criticisms for this popular carvery (Nottingham Post)

Overall, this under-a-tenner meal was faultless and as I noticed everyone else leaving with a smile on their face, so did I. I had no criticisms whatsoever.

My mum said: “It was very good value for money. I enjoyed the turkey, it was nicely cooked and not dry at all.

“The beef was a bit too fatty for my liking but overall, I give Toby Cavery a 7/10.”
