'I've spent over £500 on Kevin the Carrot toys for my kids - the house is full of them'

As kids, most of us had one toy that meant the world to us. Whether it was stuffed animal or a brand new range of Lego to build, there's always one toy that children get fixated on.

Two little girls' fascination with Aldi's Kevin the Carrot toys has reached extreme heights, however, as their parents have joked that they need a larger house to accommodate their daughters' huge haul of orange characters.

Aldi released its coveted Kevin the Carrot range of toys in 2017 and since then they have become the sole focus of two girls, Alicia Adnett, 12, and Lexie Adnett, 11 from Greater Manchester - who currently have over 100 Kevin the Carrot toys crammed into their bedroom.

Their mum, Carina Laverick, 37, is always on the lookout for a new version of the toy and will often be one of the first to grab them in online sales, while dad Stuart, 42, waits in line at the store at 6am to secure the goods.

Carina said: "We got them the first year they were released by Aldi. They really liked the Aldi advert and their primary school did Elf on the Shelf with a carrot.

"There was just Kevin and Katie and they wanted a set each so we've got double. Every year we've gone back and they've got every teddy that's been released in store."

The two girls each have 60 of the toys, meaning their house is crammed full of them. Their collection includes the full Kevin the Carrot range - which boats Kevin the Carrot, Katie the Carrot and the Carrot kids, along with other characters and books.

This year the parents have gone all out by splashing £135 on a range of football themed characters and the parents have spent over £500 on all the toys so far.

Carina explained: "They've got carrots, parsnips, tomatoes and this year they're football themed so they got all the footballers each.

"Stuart is dedicated, he goes down to Aldi at about 6am for them. They get excited, he tries to rush back before they go to school but if not, he phones them to tell them he's got them, they love it then he goes to pick them up from school with them.

"We get panicky but he goes early enough, I put them in my basket online as well just to make sure."

But with the collection of toys only growing bigger, mum Carina has quipped they will need a bigger house to get them all in.

She said: "I tweeted Aldi that I was going to need a bigger house. They sent us a free Christmas teddy one year. They take up quite a bit of room. Their rooms are just orange.

"I've told them that once they move out the teddies are going with them."
