Lorraine Kelly almost missed her slot on her eponymous morning ITV show after sleeping in.

The show was due to start at 9am and she revealed that she was running late for the first time in the programme’s 12-year history.

She shared with fans that she had initally woken up at 2am, believing she was late for work, before setting her alarm for 5.35am and going back to sleep.

Kelly tweeted: “So this is a first. Woke up — convinced I’d slept in — super fast shower — threw on clothes and then looked at time properly”.

However, her alarm later failed to go off.

She wrote: “So after getting up early, I’ve managed for the FIRST time to sleep in — YIKES!!!!”

She later tweeted that she would still make it to the show on time.

Fans hit the comment section to reassure the frazzled host that they had her back.

One wrote: "Lorraine, we love you, you got this!"

Another said: "Bless you, conscious mind while sleeping can be exhausting to say the least. Early night tonight."

Kelly was questioned about the incident by GMB’s Kate Garraway and Martin Lewis (ITV)

A third commented: "Oh no! We’ve all done that too."

Once in the studio, Kelly was asked about the incident by Good Morning Britain hosts Kate Garraway and Martin Lewis.

Garraway said: “Lorraine, I hear there has been a bit of confusion about your alarm clock. Unheard of for you."

Kelly replied: “Oh Kate, I don’t know what happened to me. I woke up and it was 2 o’clock in the morning but I thought I was late.

Kelly was left in a tizzy (ITV)

“I must have... I don’t know, maybe I need to go to Specsavers — other ones are available.

“But I got up, got ready and then wondered why all the clocks were at 2 o’clock and there was something wrong with the clock."

Lewis asked: “Did the alarm go off? Or did you just wake up early?"

She replied: “No, it never. I just woke up and I don’t know, I must have been in a really deep sleep and just panicked. You know when you’re like ‘oh my God, I can’t be late’."
