I've saved £240 on Nespresso pods by avoiding Amazon 'sales' - and it's so easy to do

Nespresso machines have become popular household kitchen accessories for avid coffee drinkers, thanks to its easy press machines and an array of pods. For many, it's another way to cut down on hot takeaway drinks, which was my main influence in adding one to my kitchen, and after two years of use, I found it's nowhere near as expensive as everyone thinks.

The thought of buying a £60 to £100 machine to make your morning coffee is a large expense for many, especially if sat next to the standard kettle that can make a decent mug in an instant. This was definitely my thought as I admired the 'fancy-looking' machines each time I stepped into John Lewis, or down my local high street.

Amazon currently has a sale on the Nespresso Vertuo Pop Coffee Machine, reduced from £100 down to £50, currently one of the cheapest places to buy the product from. As I regular customer of the brand, I'd urge anyone to avoid third party 'sales' on Nespresso pods, as they are 'secretly' a lot more expensive.

This is where I've found the huge money-saving part to come in, where I've managed to save hundreds of pounds through bulk buying Nespresso pods, buy not falling into the 'trap' of third party retailers sales. A tip for anyone eyeing up a new machine but wanting to save money in the long run.

I've saved £243 on Nespresso pods by avoiding third-party sales

Drinkers of the brand will be well aware that a range of fellow retailers offer 'dupes' of the Nespresso coffee pods, can be found in supermarkets like Lidl and Tesco, as well as collaboration ranges at Starbucks.

This is mainly down to the fact that select Nespresso pods can be quite pricey, starting at around £4 per sleeve, usually containing 10 pods, but of course prices rise depeneding on the flavour and range. This is where offers at the likes of Amazon have become quite popular as it slashes a few pounds off each sleeve for those who bulk buy.

At first glance it seems cheaper, but it's one 'hack' I've learnt to stay clear from, as it actually works out more expensive. Whilst any deals on Nespresso machines are worth going for, the pod deals are often not as 'cheap' as they may seem.

Amazon sells Nespresso pods in bulk and shoppers can usually find a three sleeve pack for £26.97, especially in Prime Day sales or its brand discount weeks. The cost of a single pod comes to around 89 each. Compared to buying through the Nespresso site this is a little bit more pricey.

Vertuo pods on Nespresso's site cost around 60p each, compared to Amazon's 89p per pod price, and the total price for the set above would be £18.60 if bought at Nespresso.

Moving onto the original Nespresso pods (which are smaller and fit in the standard Nespresso Original Machines, these are sold in bulk of 50 pods on Amazon for around £30, depending on the flavour. A bulk pack of five sleeves of Nespresso's original Espresso line costs £38 on Amazon, working out at 76p per pod.

On Nespresso, the same five sleeves in the range would cost just £21.50 or 43p per pod, again quite a bit cheaper on Nespresso's site in the long run.

It may not sound like a lot but it's a small 'PSA' for all Nespresso lovers to keep an eye on the 'deals' posted by other retailers as it's not always a cheaper offer, and one I've fallen into before. Our household buys seven sleeves of Nespresso a month, or 70 pods, for our Vertuo machine.

If I were to buy the pods on Amazon, in one of its many 'sales' I'd end up spending an average of £20.30 extra each month, or 29p extra per pod. In refraining for the catchy sales I've saved £243.60.
