'I’ve had enough' - Gary Neville slams Bruno Fernandes over second half incident against Liverpool

Gary Neville has branded Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes embarrassing after the 7-0 trouncing at the hands of Liverpool.

During the game yesterday, Neville took issue with Fernandes seemingly asking to be substituted. The incident led to a widely bemused reaction from Manchester United fans and ex-players alike.

After Liverpool's sixth goal at Anfield, Neville said on Sky Sports commentary: "Bruno Fernandes is stood in the centre circle with his arms raised saying ‘why is it me not coming off?’ Honestly, I have to say some of his behaviour in the second half has been a disgrace."

Neville went on to add: “I’ve had enough of him throwing his arms about, not running about. That wasn’t a captain’s performance by him.”

Neville’s former team-mate and United legend Paul Scholes also weighed in with his thoughts, stating on Twitter: “I actually feel sorry for [Fernandes], he’s been pushed to many jobs for the team, been on the right, he has been a little all over the place.”

United boss Erik ten Hag is yet to react to the situation in public, but he has previously taken a hard line on squad discipline - not least with Fernandes’ Portuguese counterpart Cristiano Ronaldo who was banished from the squad after his own issues.

Neville also said on Sky: “Ten Hag will deal with it I’m sure, like he’s dealt with other difficult issues.”

Liverpool ran out comfortable winners in Sunday's game at Anfield, on an afternoon which curtailed United’s winning run and gave extra momentum to Jurgen Klopp's charges who now look to have a real chance of chasing Spurs for that coveted top four spot.

The Reds are now just three points behind Antonio Conte’s side with one game in hand, before travelling to the south coast for next Saturday's early kick-off against bottom of the table Bournemouth.
