I used Portrait Pal’s AI headshot generator and the results are scarily impressive

Headshots are an important aspect in many industries, particularly if you are active on sites such as LinkedIn. A headshot can be the first impression you make to a potential employer, as it shows them how you choose to represent yourself.

Yet, unless you have headshots taken through your current job, having a professional headshot taken is costly and time-consuming – which is why Portrait Pal has taken all the hard work out for you.

The brand’s AI Headshot Generator has been designed for professionals, job-seekers, freelancers, entrepreneurs, and anyone who needs a polished headshot for their online presence.

The process is simple: pick at least six clear images of yourself and upload them to their platform, fill in a few more details about yourself and submit. Alternatively, you can link your Instagram handle to the platform and they will analyse those pictures instead. I opted for the former, uploading six or so selfies.

The headshot link will then be sent to your email around two hours later – mine arrived in just over an hour.

There are three packages to choose from: 40 images, 70 images, or 100 images, and pricing starts from $35 (£27).

On opening the link, I quite literally gasped. The images looked like me, but also not me? It was me in an alternate high-flying businesswoman universe – so, if you are a high-flying businesswoman, these would be perfect for you.

Most of the images were scarily accurate to how my face actually looks. My eyes were the same, my nose, my lips. Although it did miss some specifics like the freckle on my right cheek. The shape of my face was also a bit off in some of the images, but overall Portrait Pal got it pretty spot on – it even included the kink in my hair when I wear my side parting.

While I know the person in the images isn’t me – and anyone who knows me would be able to tell the difference immediately – spending a bit longer on image selection and inputting more variables like body shape could result in some extremely accurate headshots. If you want to have a go at it yourself, visit this link.

Look, I’m still a little sceptical about AI imaging and its role in blurring the lines between what’s fake and what’s real. But, if it is used for the greater good (i.e. helping us get another step up the career ladder), then maybe I could get on board. Only time will tell.

For now, this program is a great way to get those professional-looking images for a fraction of the cost. Find out more about Portrait Pal here.
