Newcastle United skipper Jamaal Lascelles has broken his silence on his first-team absence and says he will fight for his place under Eddie Howe.
Lascelles has started just one Premier League game this season and has been linked with a move away from St James' Park. But he has revealed he is determined to remain at the club he has captained since 2016.
Lascelles said: "On a personal note I have been on the bench for a while now. I completely understand.
"Especially as a defender, you never change a back four if they are fit and keeping clean sheets. As much as I want to play I totally support that. My work ethic won't change. "I will always be there when called upon."

Lascelles has played his part in two League Cup success stories this season with a goal in the 2-1 win at Tranmere Rovers and a polished defensive display against Crystal Palace. And he stated he was keen to keep hopes alive in the competition.
Rather than sulk about not playing, Lascelles has been supportive of his team-mates. And even picked up a yellow card as un unused sub when trying to gee up his team-mates in the 1-0 win against Chelsea.
Speaking about having a positive attitude, Lascelles added: "It's huge. I have been in dressing rooms that have been toxic.
"I'd never do that I'd always get behind the lads that aren't playing and try to lead by example. If it's not on the pitch it will be in the dressing room. I just think we have got a really special team and everybody is on board. "I will support the lads as they'd support me."
