I was lucky enough to try out two staple dresses from one of my idols during two recent summer getaways.
Author, podcaster, broadcaster and overall inspiring woman, Fearne Cotton, has released a gorgeous and affordable range with Nobody's Child. Fearne's 19-piece collection is bursting with colour and print, and perfectly encapsulates her eclectic, retro style with a rock star edge. The collection is crafted using eco-friendly fabrics, notably organic or transitional cotton and Lenzing Ecovero Viscose.
Aligning with Happy Place's mission to inspire joy and promote self-empowerment, Nobody's Child hopes the collection will add a touch of magic to their customers' wardrobes this season. Happy Place is an award-winning mental health podcast run by Fearne, who talks to incredible people about life, love, loss, and everything in-between as she reveals what happiness means to them. I tried two midi dresses from the collection, testing them out on the look, fit, feel, quality and price of both. The first one I wore was during a lunch date with friends in Liverpool, and the second I wore on a Devon holiday break.
The Daisy Midi Dress was a piece that immediately stood out to me because of the pattern. The timeless tea dress, which is topped with a dropped collar, definitely gives off retro vibes, which is classic Fearne. I love the geometric patterns as well as the floral blooms against a fun pink colour.
The fit was something I was initially worried about as I wasn't sure what the sizing was like at Nobody's Child, but it fit really well. The V-neckline gave me good support and I love that it has buttons going all the way-down the front of the dress.
It makes it easier to step in and out of, and the A-line skirt makes it stylish for both day and night time. It can be dressed up for special events, too.
The only thing I noticed that let it down was the placing of some of the buttons in the middle of the dress, one was spaced out just a bit too widely near to my stomach, and gave a small gap between the buttons. This didn't spoil the overall wear of the dress though and I would happily wear this again.
I loved the colour, design, fit and feel of the Lenzing Ecovero viscose, and viscose material. Priced at £55, I think this is a bargain, especially for a dress I will wear a few times throughout the summer.
Next up was the Alexa Midi Dress. It was a similar design to the other, in that it had buttons down the front of the dress. As I have pale skin, I tend to avoid bright colours but I couldn't resist this one.
The Alexa tea dress is detailed with an intricate broderie design that's on-trend for the season in a bold orange shade. Short sleeves and a skimming frame make the dress just as versatile as it is stylish.
I wore mine on a day out at Branscome beach in Devon and didn't feel too hot in it. I love the versatility of this dress, you can wear it with trainers for a mooch around the shops or a picnic in the park, but also match it with a pair of heels for a more sophisticated day out too.
The dress is made from 100% transitional cotton, and is priced at £69. To me, that's a little pricey for a tea dress and I'm not sure I would spend that again. However, the material, style and colour will last for a few summers to come so it may very well be money well spent when you look at it from this way.
The collection is available online at www.nobodyschild.com, and in M&S stores.
