I tried the TikTok famous £12 Revolution blur stick and my pores vanished

I decided to try the Revolution blur stick that is said to prime your skin and blur your pores, since people on TikTok have been going crazy for it.

I’m often dubious when I come across a ‘viral’ product on the app, because sometimes, but not always, the item will end up being pretty mediocre. Nevertheless, I thought I’d give the blur stick a go, considering I really struggle with pores and fine lines after applying my foundation.

In terms of primer, I usually use the Elemis kombucha product, but thought I’d switch up my routine for a more mattifying base with the Revolution stick. TikTok is a haven for beauty lovers, with plenty of recommendations of dupe and affordable products.

Priced at £11.99 from Superdrug the product is said to ‘glide on the skin’ and has been branded as ‘amazing’ by shoppers. After reviewing the Revolution Hollywood Flawless Filter Charlotte Tilbury dupe and loving it, I had high hopes for this product.

The primer

After removing the lid from the primer I was actually quite surprised at its appearance. The stick itself was pretty big, and it looked like a foundation in terms of colour.

I wasn’t entirely sure how much to apply to my face, but I glided the stick in the key areas of my face including my forehead, cheeks and chin. I quickly realised the primer wasn’t a foundation colour at all, it was a clear formula.

If I had to describe the product in one word I’d say ‘mattifying.’ I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect with something being described as a ‘blur stick’, but the formula was blendable, thick, and soft in consistency.

After applying the base, I went in with my foundation which I applied with a beauty blender, and it went on effortlessly. I was worried the foundation would collect with the primer, but it went on like butter.

In terms of final appearance, my foundation looked smooth and airbrushed, and the appearance of my pores and fine lines had definitely been reduced. I’d definitely advise touching up your face with some powder once applied though, just to make sure it sets properly.

My skin looked different after applying this primer, as opposed to my usual primer. My pores had practically vanished, and the fine lines on my forehead weren’t as noticeable as they were before.

The verdict

In this case, TikTok was definitely right. I completely understand the hype with this product.

For £11.99, the primer gives you a soft, matte finish that doesn’t look heavy or unnatural. I didn’t leave my house looking like a Barbie, there was still texture in my face, but it was just the right amount.

I was sure to take the pictures in my review in direct sunlight to give the full appearance of the primer, because let's be honest, sunlight isn’t always the most flattering on our skin. I was really impressed with the finish of this product.

You can purchase the primer from Superdrug here.
