I tried the new Kinder Cards - but I think I'll stick to Happy Hippos and Bueno

As a lover of Kinder chocolate, my ears pricked up when I saw a TV advert for Kinder Cards last week.

I’d never seen, or heard of them before, so I promised to keep an eye out the next time I popped out to the shops.

And of course, B&M - which seems to sell some of the more obscure chocolate treats, including Cadbury’s Dream - stocked the relatively new wafer biscuits.

Following a successful European launch, Kinder - owned by Ferrero - brought their Kinder Cards over to the UK in summer 2021.

Costing £1.79, there are five individually wrapped packs of cards inside, each holding two waffles.

It was quite exciting unwrapping the chocolate snack, intrigued at how it would taste.

Inside, the waffles are half chocolate and half plain, and are filled with either a milk, or cocoa chocolate filling.

Biting into the wafer, you reveal which of the two you’ve got first - and for me, it was the white chocolate, the kind found inside a Kinder chocolate bar.

Kinder said: “The wafers enclose and protect the creamy heart to guarantee the best quality, taste and experience.

“The small portions in a double pack are ideal for on the go and thus ensure handy enjoyment throughout the year.”

But half way through eating the first card, I realised I just wasn’t really enjoying it. It felt quite dry and not particularly chocolate-flavoured, which was really disappointing.

There are so many other Kinder products on the market that are much more joyful and satisfy my sweet tooth, from Happy Hippos, to Kinder Buenos.

The brand has over 50 years of history, and experience in defining its signature cocoa taste, but the Kinder Cards just fell a little flat for me.

That said, I can certainly see the appeal for children’s lunch boxes, or summer picnics, as they’re much more unlikely to melt.

If you want to try the Kinder Cards for yourself, they are available at Tesco for £1.80 for a pack of eight.

Or, here are some alternative Kinder chocolate treats you can try instead:
