Aldi has become the first UK supermarket to debut ice-cream for dogs, which is perfect timing with the scorching hot weather at the moment.
The cooling snack is available in stores now, priced at £2.99, and is 100% plant based. It comes in two flavours, Pea & Vanilla and Apple & Carrot and is known as the ‘Beechdean Doggy Ice Cream.’
I managed to get my hands on a tub for my dog Penny to try, and let’s just say she isn’t too fussy, so I knew this was going to be a hit regardless. I went for the Pea & Vanilla flavour and made sure it’d been in the freezer for a good few hours before giving it to her.

The Ice Cream
For the price, you get a fair amount of ice cream for your pup. The pack includes two Carrot & Apple flavours and two Pea & Vanilla flavours, all in little 110ml tubs.
In terms of aesthetics, the ice cream actually looked pretty good, and smelt weirdly good too which I wasn’t expecting for something pea flavoured. At first, my dog Penny was a little dubious when I put it in front of her, but it didn’t take her long to start devouring.
She ate her ice cream outside and it cooled her down instantly, her panting stopped and she genuinely looked like she was enjoying eating it, she particularly enjoyed the peas in the tub. At first she was licking the ice cream, but as it melted she began to eat it properly, and even tried to eat the actual tub it came in.
It kept her occupied for a good while, and although it doesn’t seem like much to us, I think it was just enough for my dog. I’ll definitely be keeping the ice cream handy when I want to keep her occupied, because this stuff kept her quiet for a good 15 minutes or so.
The Verdict
I was seriously impressed with this ice cream, hats off to Aldi for bringing something out that us dog owners are all going to appreciate. I often worry that my dog is too hot in the summer which sometimes makes me feel a little helpless, but this healthy snack is bound to help.
The fact that you get four tubs of two different flavours for £2.99 is really good, and all of its natural ingredients make it even better for our pets. I’ve been on the hunt for some dog ice cream from a shop for a good while now, and I’m so glad that Aldi have launched this.
Run, don't walk to Aldi, because I think this stuff is seriously going to fly off the shelves. We want to keep our pups happy after all!
