M&S has launched a new Steak & Chips pie as part of its Gastropub relaunch and shoppers are obsessed.
The pie is made with two-hour slow cooked braised British beef with a rich ale gravy and a layer of tomato chutney in an all-butter pastry base.
The star of the show is the fact that the pie is topped with ‘cheesy chips’, a unique concept that M&S fans are loving.

I managed to get my hands on the pie which is priced at a steep £5, to see what all the fuss is about.
The pie
I’ll be honest, for £5, the pie did look quite small, and I sort of struggled to decide what to have with it, since it had chips on top.
After much deliberation, I opted for more carbs, and went for some mash potatoes and vegetables, to get the full pie experience.
It took 35 minutes to cook in the oven, and it smelt absolutely incredible once it was fully cooked.
There weren't many chips on top of the pie, but there was a fair amount considering the pie itself was quite small.
As I cut into the flaky buttery pastry, I was amazed by the smell and the tenderness of the meat.
The pie almost had a barbecue flavour to it which was really unique, but it just worked so well.
The sauce was incredibly thick and rich and complemented the tender beef so well, there wasn’t an ounce of fat. It was like velvet.
It wasn’t all perfect though, as one thing in my opinion really let this pie down, and that was the amount of cheese.
Now, I’m not asking for it to be absolutely covered in the stuff, but since it was advertised as a ‘steak and cheesy chips’ pie, a bit of extra cheese would’ve been nice.
Perhaps it’s because I’m a bit of a cheese fiend, but that was the one thing that was missing from this pie, in my opinion.
The verdict
As a whole, the pie was absolutely delicious, and was in fact the first pie I’ve ever eaten from M&S.
I’ll definitely be trying out some more pies from its Gastropub range, because this was one of the best pies I’ve ever eaten, despite the lack of cheese.
The meat was tender and the pastry was buttery yet light, making it the perfect pie.
At £5, I should think so too!
