Caviar is an ingredient that’s been used in celebrity skincare routines from Victoria Beckham to Angelina Jolie. But now Aldi shoppers can give the high-end ingredient a go with their re-released SpecialBuy.
The Lacura Caviar Illumination Day Cream has relaunched in stores, as many of their popular products do after flying off the shelves.
The moisturiser - said to be a dupe of a £438 La Prairie product - was first brought out in 2015. In 2020, alongside its night cream counterpart, the budget retailer sold 36,000 litres of caviar creams.

The Lacura budget beauty buy comes in at £6.99, which may be considered pricy for Aldi, but certainly cheaper than other anti-aging products on the market.
The 50ml tub comes boxed and is said to offer ‘premium skincare for less.’ Aldi said: “The Caviar Illumination Day Cream is the perfect way to start your day. Light in texture and full of luxurious ingredients, this product will keep on working throughout the day long after you have applied it.”
The sought-after moisturiser has racked up a whopping 377 five star reviews on the Aldi website, with shoppers saying it’s better than Elemis, Liz Earle and La Prairie.
One said: “Fantastic product, I have used Elemis pro collagen marine cream since it came onto the market and nothing was as good until I started using this.”
“I have recommended this to all my friends. Amazing cream. On par with La Prairie,” added a second.
A third, more extensive review read: “I have always used quite extensive facial moisturisers (La Mer, Clinique Dramatically Different, No7 and Liz Earle). My friend recommended I try the Caviar range by Lacura as it is a dupe for La Prairie which retails at £200+.
“I must admit I was sceptical because of the low price tag, However I've been using this for three weeks and I can honestly say it is absolutely FANTASTIC. I can honestly say I'm converted to the Lacura range as I purchased other stuff which is fantastic.”

I picked up the coveted caviar product to try it for myself, and was surprised at how luxe the packaging looks and feels. It’s clear to see they took some inspiration from the La Prairie range, though they opted for a silver jar for the day cream, rather than blue.
I also thought it was great that there’s a foil lid when you unscrew the product, which is a very small thing to notice, but just goes to show that Aldi have gone the extra mile with this skincare saviour.
The Lacura Caviar Illumination collection has two powerful active ingredients – caviar extract and snow algae.
Caviar has anti-aging properties that helps moisturise the skin throughout the day, while the snow algae promotes collagen production in the skin for a plumper-looking complexion.
Aldi said: “By using these products daily, your skin will become smoother, creating a perfect base for any foundation. Your make-up will sit flawlessly on top of a smooth base with the Caviar Illumination creams.”
What’s more is that the dermatologically tested product includes SPF15 for those looking to protect their skin from UV rays.
While it’s targeted for women over the age of 40, it’s a joy to use on younger skin, too. My skin has been in desperate need of a hydration boost recently, and this miracle in a jar has really helped.
The cream has a really velvety consistency and smooths on skin calming redness and instantly offering a hydrated base that’s perfect for applying makeup on top of. The £ 6.99 moisturiser is a steal compared to big-name brands, and now I understand why it’s always flying off the shelves.
