Trust me when I say there isn’t a confidence like the kind felt striding on the treadmill to a Lizzo playlist in a PrettyLittleThing fitness set. I’m not much of a gym-goer despite paying my membership each month, however, this new gym gear might just persuade me to get out and train a little more in preparation for summer.
My typical fitness attire would generally consist of a pair of old leggings from my dancing days, and an XXL band t-shirt in a bid to disguise my shape and cover up in the cardio room.
But, who knew what a matching, well fitting set could do to transform my confidence, and push me further when it came to my workout.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been working out in two different sets from PrettyLittleThing - one black and one oatmeal - and I consider it to be no coincidence that after months of intermittent training, I hit a personal best for my 5k jog this week. It’s all about mindset when it comes to the gym, and these two fitness outfits really helped to give me that boost.
The first set was this sculpting black set, which features a pair of long black leggings, and a long sleeve crop top. I haven’t worn a crop top for at least a decade, and felt a bit apprehensive at first, but once the set was on, I realised just how great it looked together.
The cut of the top sits at my waist’s smallest part, giving the illusion of a slimmer middle, while the sculpting leggings felt amazing with an extreme high waist that made me much more comfortable with the skin exposure.
They were both really stretchy, making them really easy to train in, and I didn’t find the leggings riding up, or going baggy in the crotch during my workout, which was a real bonus as you can waste a lot of time readjusting yourself in the gym trying to avoid a wardrobe malfunction.
The trousers come in at £22, with the ‘sweat-proof’ top costing £18, so it’s £40 for the full co-ord, which is around the same amount of money I’ve wasted since Christmas in not going to the gym. But already, I’ve been texting my instructor for extra sessions, and have found myself making the most of my membership.
This set has a waterproof feel to the fabric, and despite my face practically dripping by the end of my workout, I didn’t appear to have the anticipated ‘sweat patches’ under my arms.
It is really cold heading out of the gym at the moment, which is one of the things that puts me off going, but there’s also a grey PLT fleece that’s perfect for throwing on over your fitness gear to keep warm. It also doubles as a fabulous dog walking jumper.
My favourite set though was even more out of my comfort zone, in a cycling short style with an interesting feature that gives the illusion of a curvaceous bum! While one wouldn’t typically like to draw attention to their derriere, I can’t help but think it was the best my behind had ever looked in a pair of leggings.
This ribbed oatmeal set comes with a matching, long sleeved top, which I preferred as I think short sleeved would have left me feeling a bit too exposed. Both pieces are extremely soft and seamless, as well as completely unrestrictive, meaning I could really ramp up the speed on the treadmill and have a bit of a sprint, too.
With the ruched bum detailing and a figure-skimming fit, I actually felt amazing - the best I’ve ever felt in the gym. It just goes to show what a little bit of confidence can do when it comes to working out.
The only thing I will say is that either the leggings or the fleece could have benefitted from a pocket, as I had a bit of a faff trying to carry my earphones, phone, water bottle and the disinfectant to wipe the machine down with. It would be really handy to have the ability to pocket your phone and headphones while working out to save them from being left laying around the gym.
