Calling all spice lovers, the McSpicy burger is officially back today (April 27) and I managed to get my hands on one.
Although this burger isn’t new, it’s been off the menu for more than a year now, and was an absolute hit with McDonald’s fans when it was first launched. Now that it's back for a limited time only, the fiery burger costs £4.29 on its own, or £5.79 for a medium meal depending on what drink you choose.
As part of a big menu shake up, McDonald’s lovers can also enjoy the Grand Big Mac burger (£6.29 for a medium meal or £4.79 on its own) as well as Cheesy Garlic Bites for £1.99. Also new on the menu is the Flake raspberry and Flake chocolate McFlurries priced at 99p for a mini and £1.39 for a regular.

I ordered my McSpicy burger from my local McDonald’s via UberEats. In total, it cost me £10.57 in total for a McSpicy meal with medium fries and a cappuccino, with a delivery fee of £2.79 and a service fee of 99p.
The burger
The first thing I noticed about this burger was the smell. It was an incredibly strong and spicy smell which seeped from the bag, which may sound like heaven to some, and hell to others.
I took the burger out of its packaging and looked at it in admiration. It looked really tasty, the chicken had an ever so slightly spicy red tinge to it, and it looked like it had some serious seasoning on it.
There was just the right amount of lettuce with a dollop of cool mayo, it wasn’t too slippery and messy like other burgers I’ve ordered from McDonald’s, so that was a bonus in itself. I took a bite and was faced with an almighty crunch.
At first? Nothing. But it wasn’t until a couple of bites that the spice really kicked in and gave me some fire in my belly.
This burger is definitely not for the faint hearted, but I wouldn’t say it’s unbearably spicy. For those who enjoy a kick to their burgers, the McSpicy manages to provide that without skimping on flavour or quality.
With some spicy foods, the kick can be almost too overpowering and ruin the experience completely, but the McSpicy got it just right. Admittedly, I don’t think this burger would be everyone's cup of tea, but spice is always subject to opinion.
The creamy cool mayo was a great addition and the crunch of the lettuce gave the burger a little extra variety in the texture. The chicken was some of the tastiest McDonald’s chicken I’d had in a while due to its sheer sumptuousness and juiciness, which I wasn’t expecting at all.
The verdict
Spice lovers are going to love this, though some might even say it’s not spicy enough! For me, it was just the perfect amount of seasoning and spice with great additional extras.
It’s no wonder this burger is causing up a stir on Twitter with the #McSpicyDebate hashtag, but for me, this burger was five stars and just the perfect amount of spice.
Would I order this burger all the time? Probably not. Will it take over my favourite Double Cheeseburger or Big Mac? Probably not. But it was a delicious change with a bit of oomph that the menu needs.
