'I tried McDonald's limited edition Grand Big Mac but don't understand the hype'

It's a big moment for fast food fans as McDonald's have today added six limited edition items to their menu.

Customers can now get their hands on the iconic Grand Big Mac (including a version with bacon) as well as a brand new Homestyle Crispy Chicken Burger.

If that weren't enough, Mozzarella Dippers are also available to order once again and McFlurry lovers can enjoy Flake and Raspberry Flake flavours.

To celebrate the changes to the chain's menu, we got our hands on the new items and have given them a try to see whether they live up to the hype.

Here's what we thought of the new additions.

The Homestyle Crispy Chicken burger was great (Daily Mirror)

Of the six new items, the Homestyle Crispy Chicken Burger (priced at £4.79 on its own, or £6.09 for a medium meal) was the clear winner.

The burger is made up of chicken, hot and spicy mayo, caramelised onion compote, lettuce, bacon, red onions, and cheese.

It certainly lives up to the name, with the chicken providing a nice crispy crunch with each mouthful and the combination of the mayo and compote inside making for a great tasting sauce.

There really was just the right amount of everything in this burger and the addition of poppy seeds as well as sesame seeds on top of the bun made the whole thing look much fancier than your standard McDonald's fare.

Would definitely recommend this to a friend.

And you can get it with bacon (Daily Mirror)

I also tried two other burgers during the taste test - the Grand Big Mac and the Grand Big Mac with bacon.

These burgers are absolute beasts, stacked high with two 100% beef patties, a slice of cheese, lettuce, onion, pickles and Big Mac sauce.

They're everything you would get in a standard Big Mac, but even bigger - so if you love the classic getting one of these is sure to be a fun novelty for you.

However, for me personally, these didn't hit the spot and I don't understand the hype surrounding it.

The patties themselves were very thin and there's so much else going on inside each burger that the taste of the meat gets lost and is overwhelmed by onion (which there was far too much of) and Big Mac sauce.

I was also disappointed that the Grand Big Macs only come with one slice of cheese on the bottom half of the burger, meaning the top patty was left rather dry as it only had a smidge of sauce.

In summary: Less onion and more cheese, please!

What's not to love about cheese?! (Daily Mirror)

As for the other items, the Mozzarella Dippers (£1.89 for three) are consistently good at McDonald's and I'm always pleased to see them on the menu.

These did not disappoint today and the tangy salsa sauce that goes with them pairs so well.

And when it came to the McFlurries for dessert I was transported straight back to my childhood, feeling like I was eating ice cream that I'd drizzled in Askeys Treat Sauce - do you remember that stuff?! Those were the days.

The Raspberry Flake McFlurry definitely tasted like something my 10-year-old self would have loved, it has a very artificially sweet flavour, but the sauce was a nice compliment to the chocolate Flake pieces.

I thought the Flake pieces were a good size and the chocolate sauce was also very tasty.

My only complaint is that you don't get a whole lot of sauce as it's just poured right on the top. I'd have liked more to mix through the rest of the ice cream as it became a tad boring after a few spoonfuls.

McDonald's new menu items will be available from today (February 10) in all UK restaurants for six weeks until March 23.

Here's a reminder of what's on offer:
