The weather’s getting warmer so we thought it would be the perfect time for community reporter Keimae Blake to review the Jam Rock English and Jamaican Takeaway in St Ann’s, Here is what she thought, and she was not disappointed.
Sunshine and good vibes are what come to mind when I think of Jamaica. Having been there many times for a holiday growing up, one of things I love most about Jamaica is the food.
I’m not a massive fan of ackee and salt-fish but I’m open to any other dish!
On arrival at the restaurant Jam Rock, there were people sitting outside and eating their lunch. The small, takeaway restaurant is next to a florist and a continental food store on 265 Well’s Road.

With many options to choose from in store, the prices were respectable with a medium size portion of soup for £2.50, a medium portion of Oxtail for £6 and 5 pieces of chicken or fish strips for £2.50.
Bargain.
I went for jerk chicken, rice and peas, dumplings and some chicken niblets (which comes as a portion of 3) and it’s safe to say, I will definitely be making another visit to Jam Rock.
Greeted by a lovely gentleman behind the counter, the smell inside was good enough to make you want to try a bit of everything.
For anyone with a sweet tooth, there were delicious and tempting looking cakes on display for afters too including a nice slab of chocolate cake.
With my only criticism being that the jerk sauce was a bit too spicy, the chicken niblets had a crispy, crunchy coating - better than anything at KFC. I’d love to know what Jam Rock’s recipe is!
The portion size was just the right amount (I had quite a bit to save ) and the rice and peas were lovely because there’s nothing like rice being under cooked and hard. The jerk chicken was smoky, flavoursome and tasty with the dumplings that had just the right amount of sweetness and crispiness.
After my meal, it’s safe to say, I was full and to me, that’s just under a tenner well spent.
So all in all, I’d rate the Jam Rock cafe a 9/10, I highly recommend it and I was sad to say, I forgot my grapefruit flavoured BIGGA to wash it all down but not to worry, there’s always next time.
