Last November, Harry Kane invested an undisclosed sum of money in a low-calorie doughnut company called Urban Legend.
The Tottenham forward, 29, claimed he was excited by their "ambitious growth plan" and insisted the company "connects with my keen interest to encourage others to look after their health and for retailers to have healthier options more widely available".
Urban Legend's USP (unique selling point, for those of you who don't watch The Apprentice) is to provide doughnuts with "the same calories as a slice of buttered toast". Each doughnut has fewer than 180 calories by cutting the amount of fat and sugar.
Urban Legend has found ingredients in roots, pears and melons to use as alternatives for sugar, while the use of steam baking helps cut the fat. As reported by City AM, each doughnut has 50 per cent less fat and 30 per cent less sugar on average.
Urban Legend opened its first store in Brighton in 2021 before establishing a second base in Clapham Junction. They're stocked at various Tesco and Sainsbury's outlets in and around London - as well as Selfridges on Oxford Street - and they're available online.
If I'm being honest, I did not have high hopes for Kane's doughnuts. Less fat and sugar usually equates to less taste, but I could not judge until I had sampled the goods. So, I grabbed a box of six, gave it a bash and was pleasantly surprised with the results. Watch out Krispy Kreme, Kane's got you in his sights and he knows how to hit the target...
Banoffee Pie
An outrageous little beauty from Kane here.
Banoffee Pie is covered in the lesser spotted banana-flavoured icing, with a lump of toffee crème in the middle. But here's the cheeky part - it’s topped with chocolate cookie crumbs and drizzle.
It’s slightly controversial, but you’ll love it.

Double Trouble
This is exactly what it says on the tin (website).
Double Trouble is filled with chocolate on the top and in the middle, with a some white and milk Belgian chocolate snowflakes on the top.
You can’t really go wrong... everyone loves chocolate.

Cinnamon Bun
This one is full of cinnamon... you’ve been warned, Mike Parry.
There’s not too much to say here. Cinnamon Bun is a traditional ring doughnut covered in cinnamon and sugar. It has a lovely crunchy texture to keep you entertained throughout your taste sensation.
Another safe bet from Kane here. I’ve got no complaints.

Bubblegum Burst
You have to admire the audacity with this one.
Bubblegum Burst is a shot of nostalgia – taking you back to those American-style sweets you craved as a child. It is covered with a Bubblegum-flavoured glaze, sprinkles and drizzle.
This won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it went down well with mine.

Choc Party
From the audacious to the sensible, this one is a solid effort.
Choc Party boasts a classic design, with a chocolate glaze and sprinkles. Urban Legend describe it as "our signature chocolate glazed doughnut" - and you can’t argue with that.

House of Caramel
Let's finish with an absolute stunner.
House of Caramel is a triumphant effort that will keep the punters coming back for more. It is covered in caramel icing, chocolate drizzle and caramel sprinkles – but the highlight is the surprise chocolate crème in the middle.
It is a guaranteed fan favourite.

The price of this box was £9.95, although I grabbed it on offer from Sainsbury's for £7. It is a little bit more pricey than your standard bag of six from the bakery, but it is worth it for a quality product. And the fact these doughnuts aren't calorific is a huge bonus.
Urban Legend offers everyday favourites and innovative flavours, all of which are delicious. Like garlic bread, perhaps this is the future... who needs sugar or fat?
